Obituary


Arnold Duane Olson, 90, of Clarion, passed away on March 19, 2018 with family by his side.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Arnold Olson was born on July 7, 1927. He was the seventh child of fourteen born to Ole S. and Anna T. (Huus) Olson. Arnold attended country school early on, but graduated from Clarion High School with the class of 1944. He participated in wrestling.

After graduation, he worked in a meat packing plant in Waterloo, Iowa until he enlisted in the Navy in July of 1945. While serving, he was an electrician’s mate third class based on Okinawa. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy and returned to Clarion to farm with his family.

On November 17, 1948, Arnold and Marjorie Knutson were married at the Little Brown Church. Arnold and Marge farmed near Clarion for fifty-four years before retiring. After retirement, Arnold enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling to see his children and grandchildren, and coffee-ing with friends.

Arnold is survived by his three children DeAnn (Dick) Corcoran, Duane (Lynn) Olson, and Jane (Grant) Leese; seven grandchildren, Meghan (John) Corcoran, Ryan (Brooke) Corcoran, Eric (Jenny) Olson, Dana (David) Avugiak, Daniel Leese, Maggie Leese, and Sam Leese; four great-grandchildren, Rylie Corcoran, Chloe Spatzek, Connor Olson, and Kiera Avugiak; and two brothers Luther Olson and Stanley Olson. He will be missed by special friend Mary Lou Holley, the Hardee’s coffee group, and many friends.

Arnold is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie (2006), his parents, four sisters, and seven brothers.

Memorials may be directed in Arnold’s name to the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery and Gateway Hospice.
