Obituary


Arnold G. Wendel, 86, passed away June 11, 2015 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Nazarene Church in Clarion. Pastor Dana Wendel will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place at the Belmond Cemetery Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Arnold Gene, the son of Ralph R. and Mildred Gealow Wendel, was born March 14, 1929 on the family farm near Belmond. He grew up there, attended country school, and graduated from Belmond High School in 1947.

Arnold was united in marriage to Betty Miller on February 10, 1951 in Texas. Arnold joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served his country until 1954. Upon his discharge Arnold and Betty made their home on the farm south of Belmond where he continued farming with his father. In 1991 the couple and their family moved into Belmond. Arnold entered the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in 2011.

Arnold farmed the majority of his life, but overall, he was a natural salesman. Arnold sold Alpine Air Purifiers, Pamiline Cattle Oilers and automobiles over the years. He also worked as a draftsman. Arnold belonged to the Belmond United Methodist Church and later the Nazarene Church in Clarion. Arnold and Betty were very influential in building the new church in Clarion in 1979.

Arnold is survived by his wife Betty; children Curtis and wife Dawn of Olathe, KS, Dana and wife Meiricca of Clarion, Sue Leerhoff and husband David of Clarksville, daughter-in-law Diane of Belmond; grandchildren Angel, Tina, Linda, Eric, Anthony, Nathanael , Christy, Noah, Joseph, Megan and Elizabeth; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Bruce in 2014.
