Obituary


B. Virgil Ruter, 66, of Kanawha passed away Saturday, December 17, 2000, at his home in Kanawha.

Virgil, the son of Hieko and Pearl (Brower) Ruter, was born January 24, 1934 near Kanawha.  He received his education in the Kanawha schools.

Following high school Virgil served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957.  After his discharge, he was employed as a mechanic for the Hancock County Road Department for 29 years.

Virgil was united in marriage to Karen Enabnit Dahlen on July 24, 1982.  The couple moved to Arkansas in 1985, where Virgil operated a road maintainer for 11 1/2 years, retiring in May of 1998.  They returned to Kanawha in February of 1999, where they have since resided.

Virgil enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and traveling.  He also enjoyed visiting with his many friends.

Virgil was baptized in the Wright Christian Reformed Church, where as a young man, he made Public Profession of Faith.  He was also a member of the Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and most recently a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.

Virgil is survived by his wife Karen of Kanawha; two sisters: Gen Seebeck and husband Clarence of Britt and Beverly DeWaard and husband, John of Kanawha; one daughter Wendy Grove and husband, Tim; two sons Brian and Jason Ruter; step children: Gene Dahlen and wife, Ginger, Patty Dahlen , Terri Leikam and husband, Shawn, Chris Alsup and husband, Ronald, several grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
