Ben G. Katuin, 85, Goodell, died March 16, 2016 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in
Belmond.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Dugger
Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., Belmond. Pastor Nancy Hofmeister will
officiate. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the Dugger Funeral Home until
the service time.
Ben Gerald, son of Harm and Fann Baker Katuin, was born on August 21, 1930 on a
farm outside of Britt. Ben attended grade school in Goodell and graduated from
Klemme High School.
On June 7, 1953 Ben was united in marriage with Sherley Zieman in Meservey. They
made their home in the Goodell area and were blessed with two children: Mark and
Susan.
Ben and Sherley started farming on his father's farm. They grew corn and oats,
had pasture and hay ground, and raised cattle, a few hogs, some sheep, laying
hens, ducks and capons. Ben was a farmer his entire life. He retired in 2002.
He enjoyed going to auctions and farm sales in his free time. He loved to
collect things, especially anything Allis Chalmers. He liked to read books about
tractors and old cars.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandsons Asher and Nolan Sanford.
Ben is survived by his wife Sherley; son Mark (Sharon) Katuin; daughter Susan
(David) Swaroff; grandchildren Lucas (Brittany) Katuin of Eden Prairie, MN,
Megan (Josh) Sanford of Ames, and Alex Swaroff of Ames, great-grandchild Ashlyn
Sanford; brother Marvin (Maryls) Katuin of Mason City; and niece Margaret (Curt)
Klaahsen of Mason City.
