Obituary


Bergel Amanda (Moen) Whitman, age 91, passed away at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa on Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Bergel was born on July 12, 1914, in Leland, Iowa, to Charley and Sena Moen. In 1935 Bergel moved in Clarion. It was here that she met and subsequently married Howard Franklin Whiteman on February 10, 1937.

Bergel was a member of First Lutheran Church where she participated in various church circles, FLCW, sew day, and bible study classes. She always gave a helping hand to any church activity that needed her. Bergel was also active in the Federated Club and the Clarion Hospital Auxiliary. When Bergel was not spending time with family and friends, she was knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading, baking, playing bridge, and volunteering.

Bergel is survived by daughters Molly (Tom) Notestine of Lee’s Summit, MO, Mary (John) Gordon of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Lee (Sharon) Dallager, Granada, MN, Aaron Notestine, Worester, MA, Amanda (Ryan) Chisholm, Boca Raton, FL, Andrea Notestine, Honolulu, HI, Ashley Notestine, Paymore, MO, Andrew Notestine, Kansas City, MO, Adam (Karin) George, Denver, CO, Ryan (Susie) George, Kansas City, MO, and Tyler George, Kansas City, MO, Sarah Gordon, Kansas City, MO, Luke (Amber) Gordon, Kansas City, MO, and Philip Gordon, Kansas City MO; great-grandchildren, Jaden Notestine, Kailaini Chisholm, McKenna George, and Joe, James, Emily, and Michael Dallager; sister, Elvina Moen, Chicago, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, daughter Sena, and son Tom.
