Bernard E. Russell, 85, of Dows, died Monday March 17, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. Pastor Ron Nelson will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday. Bernard Earl was born on a farm near Webster City on July 27, 1928 to Earl and Mary (Denby) Russell. He graduated from Dows High School in 1946. Bernard started farming right after graduating high school. On August 26, 1949, Bernard was united in marriage to Norma Thompson. In 1951, they moved to a farm south of Coulter and lived there for 15 years. In January of 1966, they moved to a farm south of Dows. Bernard served on many boards including church, FS, and the creamery in Coulter.
