Bernice Carol, daughter of Archie and Verna (Winslow) State, was born on July
11, 1925 on the family farm near Galt. Bernice attended country school near Galt
and graduated from Clarion High School.
On November 19, 1944, Bernice was united in marriage to Ryle Andrews at her
parents' home near Belmond. The couple made their home at a farmhouse near her
parents' home and eventually moved to the family farm where they raised their
children and worked side by side on the farm.
Bernice was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was her life and loved
spending time with them. Bernice and Ryle enjoyed square dancing and ballroom
dancing and spent many winters in Harlingen, Texas together.
Bernice loved to garden and bake, especially bread, pies, and tea rings. She
enjoyed oil and acrylic painting and sewing. She gave her paintings as gifts and
many are displayed in several locations. She sewed many clothes for kids,
matching square dancing outfits for her and Ryle, and multiple doll and Barbie
clothes for her children's dolls. She also made dozens of quilts, some tied and
some hand stitched.
