Bernice Jennie Eisenman, 88, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at
Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Bernice, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (Manuel) Riehm was born March 1, 1913
on a farm south of Duncan. She grew up in the Duncan area where she attended
country schools. Bernice then attended Britt High School where she received her
Normal Training Teaching Certificate. She furthered her education by taking
summer sessions at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in
country schools and later obtained her cosmetology license.
Bernice was united in marriage with Willard Eisenman on October 24, 1936 at Rock
Island, Illinois. The couple made their home and farmed north of Britt, and in
1957 on a farm northwest of Crystal Lake. Following their retirement in 1985,
the moved to Britt.
Throughout her life, Bernice held many interests including, playing the violin,
crocheting, and spending time with friends and neighbors. Her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren were her pride and joy; she enjoyed spending time with them
and making brownies for them. In recent years Bernice enjoyed using the
Internet.
Bernice was a 68-year member of the Charity Rebekha Lodge #334 and was a member
of a neighborhood birthday club.
Bernice is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Jane Eisenman of Papillion,
Nebraska; one son, Harold Willard Eisenman of Mason City; four grandchildren:
Julie and Ed Duran of Cedar Rapids, Pam and Al Winter of Clarion, Monica and
Jeff Oetker of Marshalltown, and Andrew Eisenman of Mason City; seven
great-grandchildren: Paige, Jesse, Amanda, Jacob, Katie, Brady and Megan; two
sisters-in-law: Florine Riehm of Garner and Mildred Nall of Scottsdale, Arizona;
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard in 1988, five
brothers: Paul, Fred, Harold, Curtis and James.
