Obituary


Bess E. Sheets, 93, passed away Monday, July 12, 1993 at the Friendship Haven Nursing Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Bess was born in Sibley, Illinois January 2, 1900, to George and Elizabeth (Foster) Fannin.  She moved to Britt in 1917 and completed her High School education here, graduating with the class of 1918.  She was Secretary-Bookkeeper at the Nelson-McNory Garage prior to her marriage to Emmett Sheets on January 21, 1920 in the Methodist Parsonage in Mason City, Iowa.  The couple farmed in this area for a number of years, then lived in Hutchins until 1945 when they moved to Britt.

She joined the United Methodist Church in 1914, and was an active member of the church and of the United Methodist Women.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include two daughters: Margery and her husband, Floyd Cary of Pahrump, Nevada; Charlot and her husband, Robert Floren of Sedro Wooley, Washington; a son, Robert and his wife, Joyce Sheets of Flamino Lodge, Florida; a son-in-law, William Spangler of Crown Point, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett in 1982, a daughter, Jean Spangler, her parents, four brothers and six sisters.
