Betty J. (Lamp) Carter, 97, of Britt, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at
her home in Britt.
Funeral service for Betty Carter will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, December 10,
2021, at First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue Northwest in Britt with Pastor
Anna Wolf officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 10, 2021, from 10:00-11:30 AM at First
Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue Northwest in Britt.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Betty Jane Carter, daughter of Herman and Mabel (Miller) Lamp, was born October
1, 1924, in New Hampton, Iowa. Betty grew up in New Hampton and graduated from
high school there.
She was united in marriage with Lennie Carter, Sr. on March 5, 1944, in the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple moved to Seattle, Washington, where
Lennie was stationed. After his discharge from the Navy, the couple moved to
New Hampton and started Lamp/Carter Café with Betty's parents. In 1957 they
moved to Britt, where they raised their 8 children.
Betty was the Britt City Clerk from 1964 to 1990.
Betty is survived by her children Diana "Tudy" Wells of Britt; Sheryl (Forrest)
Tegtmeyer of Humboldt; Karen (Tim) Devine of Cedar Falls; Cynthie (Mike) Madson
of Britt; Trudy (Bruce) Coleman of Waverly; Nancy (Charles) Dolney of Grenville,
South Dakota; Lennie, Jr. "Rocky" (Sonette) of North Pole, Alaska; and Melanie
(Steve) Peters of Waverly. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 46
great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren with 1 on the way, and 11
step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lennie Carter, Sr., grandson Kelly
Gear, and son-in-law Don Wells.
