Obituary


Betty L. (McColloch) Nelson, 84, of Britt passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Betty Nelson will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Evangelical Free Church of Britt, 810 2nd Avenue North West in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Betty Lou (McColloch) Nelson was born March 8, 1932 to Harry “Dan” and Vera (Squibb) McColloch in Forest City Township. She attended school in Forest City.

Betty was united in marriage to Myrlen Nelson on March 29, 1949 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union five children were born: Cindy (Larry) Anderson, Wendy (Gary) Bomstad, Richy (Tudi) Nelson, Kevin Nelson, and Jon Nelson. The family resided in Britt for the majority of Betty’s life.

Betty worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Westview Care Center for approximately 28 years. She volunteered many years at Westview after retiring.

You would often see Betty out walking every night, no matter the weather conditions. She also liked to play cards, read, and cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and making pies for any family event she could.

Betty will be remembered for being a loving mother and having a kind soul.

Betty is survived by her five children; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; her three siblings Wilma, Jackie, and Junior; sister-in-law Tootie; her two special friends JoAnn Harle and Donna Nedved; along with many extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her nine siblings Loty, Gweneth, Sandy, Mae, Chet, Let, Dale, Mary Ellen, Donald Dean, and sister-in-law Myrt.
