Services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron, Illinois. Visitation will be from 12 PM to 1 PM prior to the service at the church. Betty was born to John and Effie (White) Bazor on a farm near Reevesville, Illinois on November 27, 1930 (Thanksgiving Day). She married the love of her life, Wiliferd Eugene Richey on September 3, 1949. Betty loved school, especially Latin and office related courses. She worked as a secretary for the government while Wiliferd served in the army 1952-1954. Betty loved taking care of her husband and each of her three children while Wiliferd farmed their Cordova farm. She was an exceptional cook and loved to sew. She sewed shirts for Wiliferd and their sons and made many outfits for their daughter. Later she enjoyed making Daisy Kingdom dresses for her granddaughters and shirts & overalls for her grandsons.

Betty was a faithful church member at Bethel Baptist Church in Port Byron and the last 10 years at Bethel Baptist Church Britt, Iowa. Betty loved her three children, Joseph (deceased June 12, 2016), Bob (deceased December 9, 1980) and Beth. She also had a special place in her heart for each of her five grandchildren, Alex (Amy), Hannah (Tim), Abby, Josh and Nate (Tabitha) as well as great granddaughter, Karis, and great grandsons Kinnick & Jeriah. Wiliferd went to be with his Lord on September 14, 2016.

Betty is survived by her daughter in-law Karen Richey of Prophetstown, Gayle (Richey) Raab of Erie, and her daughter Beth (Greg) Baum of Britt, Iowa, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. A special thank you to Westview Care Center and MercyOne North Iowa Hospice for all your tender loving care to Betty at the end of her life on earth.
