On May 10, 1939, Beverly Kay Ruter was born to Heiko and Pearl Ruter in Kanawha, Iowa. She started school at Amsterdam #9 and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1956. She went on to work at the telephone company and then at Farmer’s State Bank of Kanawha.

John DeWaard and Bev were joined in marriage on August 25, 1967, at the Wright Christian Reformed Church, which is where she was baptized, professed her faith, and is now being buried. They made their home with their three children on a farm west of Kanawha. During this time, she worked for many years as the cook at the Kanawha Christian School. In 2001, they moved into a house in Kanawha.

Bev enjoyed many hobbies, including cooking, baking, and quilting. But what she loved most was being a wife, a mom, and a grandma.

She is survived by her husband John, her children Pat (Hugh) Maetzold, Jacey (Rory) Wallace, Tim (Kristi) DeWaard, and her grandchildren John Wallace, Jacob Wallace, Luke DeWaard, Samuel Wallace, Calvin Wallace, Olivia DeWaard, Bethany Maetzold, Benjamin Wallace, and Lily Maetzold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gen, and her brother, Virgil. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Beverly's name may be made out to the Wright Christian Reformed Church or the Kanawha Christian School.
