Obituary


Birdene Jutting, 81, of Kanawha, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt surrounded by her family.

Funeral services for Birdene Jutting will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 East Third Street in Kanawha with Pastor Brian Hofman officiating.  Burial will follow at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street in Kanawha and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. 

Birdene Florence (Luppen) Jutting was born on August 16, 1936, in Mason City to Peter and Edith (Eekhoff) Luppen.  She grew up on a farm outside of Kanawha.

She was united in marriage to Howard Jutting on September 26, 1958, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.  The couple made their lifelong home on a farm north of Kanawha.

Having a strong faith, Birdene was very active throughout the church.  She was a Sunday school teacher, the church librarian and a member of Ladies Aid.  She also published the church bulletin for many years.

She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and spending time with her family.  She especially enjoyed teaching her granddaughters how to crochet.

Birdene was a caring person always putting others first; anyone inquiring about her health would hear “I’m fine, how are you?”

Birdene is survived by her husband of 58 years, Howard; children Eileen Jutting of Johnston and Randy (Carla) Jutting of Huxley and their children Amy, Randi (Cole), Beckie, Grace and Hanna; brother Phil (Francine)  Luppen of Kanawha; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Wilma Luppen.

Memorials may be directed to the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church or the Kanawha Christian School.
