Obituary


Brandt Ferris Freeburg, 77, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 following a short, but valiant battle with lymphoma.

Funeral services for Brandt Freeburg will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of the Nazarene in Britt with Rev. Anthony Freeburg, and Rev. Ron McKee officiating. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Brandt was born December 30, 1930 in Clayton, New Mexico to Stanley and Rosa Freeburg. He grew up in New Mexico and Oklahoma; graduated from Mt. Zion Bible School and College in Ava, Missouri; attended Kansas City College and Bible School in Overland Park, Kansas.

Brandt was pastor at Nazarene churches in Iowa and North Dakota, and was active in the construction of four churches. Brandt and his wife, Frances, returned to Britt, Iowa in 2003 where he remained active in the ministry. He was a Bible scholar, and spent his life ministering to others.

Brandt is survived by his loving and caring wife of 56 years, Frances, and their five children: Deborah Jennings of Topeka, Kansas, A. Stanley Freeburg and wife. Janelle, of New London, Missouri, Rev. Anthony (Tony) Freeburg and wife, Cynthia, of Willmar, Minnesota, Rodney Freeburg and wife, Debbie, of Dickson, North Dakota, Dan Freeburg and wife, Kerry, of Bakersfield, California. He was blessed with eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by on brother, Sidney Freeburg of Tulare, California; two sisters, Elizabeth Collins of Gardner, Kansas and Treva Cunningham of Richardson, Texas; many nieces and nephews.

Proceeding Brandt in death are; his parents, half brother, Leland Freeburg, and two grandchildren: Dr. Paul Brandt Freeburg and Melissa Freeburg.

The family is most grateful to the staff of Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa, West Hancock County Ambulance Service in Britt, Iowa, and Hospice of North Iowa. They provided Brandt with professional and caring medical attention.
