Obituary


Bruce E. Wendel, 54, Belmond, passed away on April 18, 2014 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Nazarene Church in Clarion. Pastor Dana Wendel will officiate. Visitation will from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South, in Belmond and will continue for one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.

Bruce Eric, the son of Arnold and Betty Miller Wendel, was born November 13, 1959 in Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School and attended Christian college for a time. Bruce finished his education in auto body tech school and worked in auto restoration and repair for several years in Idaho. After returning to Iowa, Bruce worked at Kiefer Built in Kanawha and Brooks Auto Body in Belmond. He was employed on the second shift at Eaton Corp. in Belmond at the time of his passing.

Bruce married Diane Sue Elwing on April 11, 1987, and they raised their family in Belmond. Bruce is remembered as a great artist who truly loved auto body repair. He mostly loved the technique of air brushing. Bruce considered his Chevelle his baby, but playing with grandchildren was always his greatest love. Bruce was a member of the Clarion Church of the Nazarene.

Bruce is survived by his wife Diane; children Angel (Dana) of Clear Lake, Tina of Fort Dodge, Linda (Rod) of Norwalk and Eric of Belmond; eleven grandchildren; parents Betty and Arnold Wendel of Belmond; sister Sue Leerhoff (David) of Clarksville; and brothers Curtis (Dawn) of Olathe, KS and Dana (Marika) of Clarion.
