Burdette N. Thompson

Burdette N. Thompson, 93, of Clarion passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Careage of Clarion in Clarion, Iowa.

Funeral services for Burdette Thompson will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at 10:30 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes with Pastors Dennis Dorenkamp and Richard Taylor officiating.  Burial will be at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Burdette Norman Thompson, son of Sam and Ellen (Erickson) Thompson, was born April 1, 1917, in Clarion.  Burdette attended country school at Lake #5 and graduated from Clarion High School in 1936.  Following graduation he began farming full time as his father had passed away in November, 1935.  On November 22, 1941, he married Clarice Carlson at the home of the bride.  They raised three daughters in Clarion.

Burdette retired from farming when he was 65, but for many years continued doing farm work.  He enjoyed keeping the farm and town yards mowed and trimmed to perfection.

Burdette had been a member of Holmes Lutheran Church longer than any other living member.  Burdette enjoyed serving in many areas.  He played in the string band, sang in the church choir, was choir director, taught Sunday school, was the head usher for many years, and was Secretary/treasurer for 18 years.

Burdette is survived by his wife Clarice; daughters Charlotte (Chuck) Kern of Clarion, Iowa., Elaine (Fred) Hollaus of Redlands, California. and Helen (Dennis) Dorenkamp of Peoria, Arizona. Eight grandchildren, Angela (Shawn) Brown, Chad (Karla) Kern, Dana (Kyle) Campbell, Lora(Jason) Bowman, Brent Dorenkamp, Clinton (Jennifer) Dorenkamp,  Kristine (Ryan) Klima and Rachel (B.K.) Grayson.  Thirteen great grandchildren, Norah Brown, Brayden and Caleb Kern, Emma and Maddie Bowman,  Gabriel, Gavin and Makel Klima, Avery Dorenkamp and Ethan LaBounty.

Burdette was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Bernard and twin brothers Andrew and Arthur.
