Obituary


Carol Ann (Olson) Rohrer, 80, of Clarion passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Funeral Services for Carol Ann Rohrer will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM at First Lutheran Church, 420 1st Street Northwest in Clarion with Pastor Nicole Woodley officiating. Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Carol Ann Rohrer, the daughter of Melvin and Olga (Anderson) Olson, was born on November 18, 1939 in Mason City, Iowa.

Carol grew up around the Carpenter area and graduated from Carpenter High School as valedictorian of the class of 1957.  After high school, Carol attended Waldorf College earning her teaching degree. It was there she made some lifelong friends who called themselves the “Tamatas” and they continued to get together through the years. She later continued her education, taking summer classes at Mankato State University obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree.

She began her teaching career in Clarion, Iowa where she met the love of her life, Caryl Rohrer. Carol was a dedicated teacher, working 38 years for the Clarion School District.

Carol was united in marriage with Caryl Rohrer on April 13, 1963 at the Lutheran Church in Hampton, Iowa.  To this union, two daughters were born. She enjoyed family vacations, shopping with her daughters, and going fishing with Caryl. She even had her dream vacation to Norway and Sweden.

In her free time, Carol used her creativity on quilting, Norwegian rosemaling, sewing and different crafts. She made birthday parties special for the girls by coming up with fun cakes and activities. She loved word puzzles, any and all crime shows and watching Wheel of Fortune with Caryl daily. She also enjoyed time with friends in clubs including Bridge and TTT. She always cherished time spent with family and had the biggest smile seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carol was a woman of faith. She was a devout member of the First Lutheran Church in Clarion being active in the women’s church circle and teaching Sunday school.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Caryl Rohrer of Clarion; daughters Shelley (Tom) Osier of Nevada, Iowa and Jen (Chad) Mann of Story City; grandson Corey (Haley) Osier and their children Tenley and MJ; brothers Arnold (Mary Kay) Olson and Roger (Connie) Olson; sisters-in-law Judy Olson and Sandra Olson; brothers-in-law Duane (Carol Louise) Rohrer, Ed (Fritz) Rohrer and Diane (Gary) Dahlgren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim and Keith, parents-in-law Harold and Della Rohrer, brothers-in-law: Francis (Doris) Rohrer, Gary (Shirley) Rohrer, sister-in-law Mary Lois (Wally) Hagen.
