Obituary
Carol Fay (Hillenga) Clendenen, 54, of Lewisburg, West Virginia, formerly of Woden, passed away December 2, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Carol, the daughter of Edwin and Erna (Iverson) Hillenga, was born on September 7, 1953, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. She attended Kanawha Christian School for grades K - 8. Carol graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake High School. She graduated from Bluefield State College, Bluefield, Virginia, with a Social Services Degree. Carol was baptized and made public profession of faith at the Woden Christian Reformed Church.
Carol was united in marriage to Patrick L. Clendenen on June 22, 1979 in the Woden Christian Reformed Church. They moved to West Virginia and resided there for the past 25 years. Carol was employed by several facilities in West Virginia where she enjoyed working with mentally handicapped clients. Carol enjoyed quilting, fishing, reading, and singing in her church choir. She was a member of several established singing groups.
In May of 2007, Carol moved to Mason City, Iowa residing at Heritage Care and Rehab Center. Carol had suffered from poor health since 1999. She was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 and passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007, due to complications of diabetes.
She is survived by her sons: Patrick S. Clendenen of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; husband, Patrick of Caldwell, West Virginia; mother Erna (Iverson) Hillenga of Woden, Iowa; two sisters, Sharon Kay Hunter of Cedar, Minnesota and Doris Haugland (husband Dean) of Crystal lake, Iowa; two brothers, Edwin Hillenga (wife Vicki) of rural Wesley, Iowa and Dean A. Hillenga (wife Suzanne) of Calgary, Alberta Canada; and brother-in-law John M. Smidt of Woden, Iowa; special friends John and Phyllis Nickell, Beatrice Beach and Audrey Hiser of Lewisburg, West Virginia; and the congregation of Edgewood Presbyterian Church - Sally Wooderd, Pastor; many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Edwin, one son Sean, and one sister Jean Smidt.
