Carol J. (Janssen) Vodraska

Carol Vodraska, 75, of Clarion passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the University Of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Carol Vodraska will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a Rosary beginning at 4:30 PM, at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Carolyn “Carol” Jeane Vodraska was born April 21, 1942 to Robert and Eka (Dirksen) Janssen in Mason City. Carol was raised and educated in Buffalo Center, Iowa and later attended beauty school at La James College in Mason City.

Carol was united in marriage to Michael Vodraska on October 20, 1962 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. The couple made their home in Clarion.

Carol operated a beauty shop out of her home for many years. She loved caring for her clients and continued to do so for many of them once they were not able to come to the shop anymore.

In addition to her work, she also enjoyed dancing, sewing, refinishing furniture and restoring her home over the years. She also enjoyed traveling to Branson, Mountain View, Arkansas, and she and Mike attended Sturgis for many years on their Harley.

Carol is survived by her daughters Christine (Marvin) Redenius, Michelle (Kevin) Vodraska-Speirs of Clarion and Sherri Ranae Slifka of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren Ryan (Kara) Redenius and their children Rylee, Khloe and Ryder, Rochelle (Quinten) Kruszka and their daughter Bijou, Reid (Brittany) Redenius and their children Paxton and Cyprus, Morgan Vodraska and Alexis McOllough-Vodraska; sister Agnes Hartman of Crystal Lake, Iowa; brothers-in-law Stanley (Florence) Vodraska of Niagara Falls, Canada and James (Rita) Vodraska of Norwalk, Iowa; special friend Duane Reinsch of Webster City; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, husband Mike in 2014 and brother-in-law John Vodraska.
