Charles "Chuck" Hunt, 70, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City Funeral service for Chuck Hunt will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Britt Christian Reformed Church, At the Crossroads Ministry, 569 Main Avenue North in Britt with Pastor Kevin Boss officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held Monday, April 10 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Charles Thomas Hunt, son of James "Jim" and Betty (Tollakson) Hunt, was born July 14, 1952 in Iowa Falls, Iowa and grew up around the Alden area. While attending middle school in Popejoy, Chuck met Lora Nicholson, the woman he later would marry. Their first date was at Homecoming their senior year. Chuck and Lora graduated from Alden High School in 1970. On February 5, 1972, Chuck and Lora were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church of Alden and were blessed with two children: a daughter, Jerri, and a son, Andrew. Chuck attended DMACC in Ankeny and graduated with his electrical tech degree. After college he worked for Prestressed Concrete in Iowa Falls, and later as a DOT officer before settling on his true calling as a master electrician. In 1979, the family relocated to the place that would be his forever home, Britt. He was employed at Lauridsen/Armour Foods at night while embarking on his own business, which you all know and love, Hunt's Electric. In 2004, his son, Andrew, moved back to Britt and became a partner in the business. Charles owned and operated Hunt's Electric for 40 years "retiring" in 2020. Chuck was the busiest retired person you ever met. He filled his time with his many passions. He loved being a grandfather to his five grandchildren, supporting them in all their sports and activities. He never hesitated to get up early or stay up late to watch them play or perform. If Chuck wasn't working or cheering on his grandkids, he was probably found in the barn where his two dogs, Henry and Buddy, would be shadowing his every move while he constantly was building and rearranging his beloved goats, much to the chagrin of the women in his life. Chuck loved his chickens and goats as well as his barn cats. He loved sharing his knowledge and stories with anyone who would listen. In his "spare time", Chuck loved to serve his community, volunteering many hours setting up for Hobo Days and RAGBRAI. He enjoyed camping, movies, and NASCAR. Only those closest to him knew Chuck's love of sweets, especially Oreos, M&Ms and Peeps. There was always a jar or 6 next to his chair with different types of candy, and the man was never without a jar of gummy worms. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lora; daughter Jerri; son Andrew and his wife Betsy; grandchildren Nicholas and wife Katelyn Hunt, Tristan Hunt, Liliana Hill and fiance Patrick Terhark, Ethan Hill, and Julia Hill; and great-granddaughter Briley Hunt; siblings Pat (Dan) Zimansky, Janet (Wayne) Greufe, Kenneth Hunt, Phyllis (Jim) Greenfield, Brenda (Tim) Gerdes; sister-in-law Martha "Toots" Crosby, and many nieces and nephews; his dogs Henry and Buddy as well as his cats, chickens, and, of course, his goats. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Betty Hunt; in-laws Clifford and Esther Nicholson; sisters-in-law Janice Swires and Cathy Bennet; brothers-in-law Clifford Bruce Nicholson and Arthur Nicholson; nephews Chris Bennet, Daniel Bennet, Tommy Nicholson; and niece Valarie Flygare.
