Obituary


Charlie Wilson, 90, of Belmond died January 20, 2016 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Services were held January 23, 2016 at Belmond United Church of Christ Congregational. Burial with military rites was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Charles Robert, the son of Charles H. and Gladys I. DeMoss Wilson, was born December 17, 1925 near Iowa Falls. Charlie grew up in Blairsburg, graduating from Blairsburg High School. He was drafted during WWII, serving in Japan. He came home and within a short time was called for service in the Korean War.

He graduated from the Washington School of Art and was united in marriage to Leona E. Jenkins. The couple was blessed with children Elizabeth and William.

Throughout his life Charlie enjoyed working in many different roles. As an adolescent he began handling bees, selling honey as part of Wilson Apiaries. Charlie worked as a cook on the Illinois Center Railroad. Charlie also loved baseball, American history, and classical music. He was very active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a scout master for several years. He received much recognition and several awards from the Boy Scouts, the most notable being the Silver Beaver Award.

He is preceded in death by his wife Leona (1976); and sister Elizabeth.

Charlie is survived by his children William of Plymouth and Elizabeth (Moxley) of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren Morgan of Wheaton and Taylor of Fort Collins, CO; sister Iris Greenfield of Slater; brothers Francis of Perry, Gerry (Sue) of LeSueur, MN, and Jon (Reggie) of Kansas City; eleven nieces; and thirteen nephews.
