Daughter of Ben and Laura (Vanantwerp) Hagar, Charlotte was born in Harvard, Illinois on December 26, 1927.

Charlotte spent her early years in Harvard and Chicago, Illinois and then moved to FonduLac, Wisconsin. Charlotte graduated high school in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Following high school, Charlotte received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was at the Woolstock County School in Woolstock, which was a one room school house. Teaching carried her to Kanawha, working there as a first grade teacher at the Kanawha Elementary School for 30 years.

Charlotte married Irvin E. Rockow from Dows in June of 1950. The couple farmed and the country life remained with her throughout her life. She loved to read. Any spare time she had, she could be found with a book or a pen as she also loved writing. Charlotte wrote mostly poems with a gift for putting her thoughts down on paper with beauty. Also, Charlotte loved to sit around the kitchen table talking about family, history, politics, or the Bible.

Charlotte was inspired by the beauty of spring flowers, a newly mowed hayfield, the vibrant colors of fall and frosty winter mornings. As in the song “Amazing Grace”, mom was amazing and graceful.

Charlotte is survived her children Jeffrey (Barb) Rockow of Anoka, MN, Paul (Patsy) Rockow of Racine, WI, Cynthia Corgan of Phoenix, AZ, Shelley (Tony) Foss of Belmond; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law Delia Rockow, Sharon Rockow, Charlene Rockow; two brothers-in-law Edward Rockow and Virgil Rockow; and multiple nieces and nephews.
