She began life in Britt, Iowa on March 3, 1931, the first of nine children born
to Harold L. and Helen M. Smith. She entered school in Britt but later attended
school in Lacona, Pleasantville and Clear Lake.
Charlotte joined the Methodist Church in Clear Lake at an early age along with
siblings Robert and Mildred. She later became a member of the United Methodist
Church in Belmond.
While still in her teens she was employed by Ron and Virginia Courson in
Belmond, Iowa, as a housekeeper, babysitter, etc. While in this home she was
always treated with loving kindness and as a member of the family. Her
employment with the Coursons lasted from her teen years till the Courson
children were grown and left the home. The Coursons were, and always have been,
her wonderful second family. God bless them!
After leaving employment, Charlotte moved into the Retirement Home in Belmond,
Iowa. Her mother was also living there at the time and enjoyed being close.
They were good company for one another. After her Mom passed, Charlotte was
content to live a quiet life and enjoyed the company of the other residents.
She did not require a lot to make her happy and appreciated the simple things in
life. The Methodist Church was important to her and members always made her
feel welcome.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her brother Robert Smith and sister-law-Mary,
sisters Linda and Dorothy, brother-in-law Larry Brand and brother-in-law Robert
Dankbar. She is survived by brothers Harvey (Susan) and Stanley (Nancy),
sisters Mildred (Ray) Lowenberg, Joan Dankbar, and Kathleen (Tom) Godden along
with many nieces and nephews.
We thank Hospice for their care and attention to Charlotte's needs during this
difficult time and thank you to the staff and the Belmond Care Center.
