Obituary


Cheryl Ellis, 70, of Clarion passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion surrounded by her family.

Funeral services for Cheryl Ellis will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 115 3rd Avenue Northwest in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.

Visitation for Cheryl Ellis will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. 

Cheryl Ann (Armstrong) Ellis was raised and educated in Clarion. On June 20, 1963, Cheryl was united in marriage with Steven Ellis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  The couple raised their family in and around Clarion.

Cheryl worked at the Wright County courthouse for 18 years, primarily in the Assessor’s office.  Before that, she worked in the meat department at Super Valu, at the Clarion Theater, and briefly as a nurses’ aid at the hospital in Clarion.  She also owned and operated a consignment shop in Clarion.

Cheryl was a caretaker, selflessly putting the needs of others before her own.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Cheryl was a competitive game player; Aggravation and Yahtzee were among her favorites.  She enjoyed casinos, knitting, crocheting and researching genealogy and astrology on her computer.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Steven of Clarion; sons Joel (Pam) Ellis of Goldfield and their sons Joel and Jordan, Jeffrey (Kelly) Ellis and their daughter Kandee of Kanawha, and Jon Ellis of Clarion; sisters Anita Hilpipre of Woolstock and Laurie (Bill) Leonard of St. Louis, Missouri; along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Marjorie and George Mennig.
