Obituary


Cheryl Jackson, 48, of Kanawha, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at her home.

A gathering of family and friends for Cheryl Jackson will be held Monday, December 13, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha.  According to her wishes, Cheryl’s body has been cremated.

Cheryl Lynn (Vander Ploeg) Jackson was born on January 8, 1962 in Des Moines.  At birth she was adopted by Clarence and Lillian (Blank) Vander Ploeg and was raised in Kanawha.  Cheryl attended school in Kanawha and graduated from Kanawha High School.  Cheryl was baptized in the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.

After graduation, Cheryl worked miscellaneous jobs until she was married to Jay Jackson on January 2, 1985.  They lived in California while Jay served in the military, and Cheryl became a certified cook for Denny’s.  The couple returned to Kanawha thirteen years ago to purchase the Talk of the Town restaurant.  Cheryl ran the restaurant until its closing November 1, 2010.

Cheryl and Jay were members of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.  Cheryl really enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She liked to go for rides with the draft horses, looking around at junk shops and loved her dogs.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Jay; daughter Sylvia Jackson of Klemme; son Joseph Jackson of Goodell; two grandchildren:  Kimberly and A.J. Jackson; brother Curtis (Judy) Vander Ploeg of Kanawha; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother Steven in 1952.
