Obituary


Chester J. Johnson, 83, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at his home in Kanawha.

Chester was born on November 19, 1911, northwest of Clarion, Iowa, to Tommy and Louise Johnson.  He attended country school and helped farm the family farm.  On December 20, 1941, he was united in marriage with Carol Norby at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.  The couple farmed in the Kanawha area until 1977 when they moved into Kanawha, where he has since resided.  During the depression years Chester worked in Chicago near Wrigley's Field for three years.  He enjoyed playing bingo and bowling and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.  Chester was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his children, Wayne and his wife, Julie Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Cheryl Johnson of Mason City, Iowa; Janet Otis of Wesley, Iowa; Judy Skow and her husband, Reuben of Wesley, Iowa; David and his wife, Joyce Johnson of Kanawha, Iowa; five sisters: Leone Baker of Goldfield, Iowa; Edith Burras and her husband, Eugene of Madera, California; Ruth Katuin and her husband, John of Madera, California; Frances Swanson and her husband, Dean of Williams, Iowa; three brothers: Lawrence of Fresno, California; Howard and his wife Marge of Leland, Iowa; John and his wife, Mary Ann of Blacksburg, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two infant sisters, a brother, and one daughter in infancy.
