Clayton 'Thunder' D. Trager, 64, of North Buena Vista, Iowa and formerly
Alexander/Belmond, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Bethany Home in
Dubuque.
Graveside services for Clayton 'Thunder' Trager will be held at 2:30 PM on
Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery, 3157 130th Street
in rural Belmond.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:15 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Ewing
Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond.
Clay was born July 13, 1956 to Carl and Faye (Bohning) Trager in Belmond. He
attended school and graduated from Belmond High School. He attended Des Moines
Community College and worked for many years as CEO at Allen Printing in Clarion.
He was founder and publisher of several magazines, including HorsePower
Magazine, Garden and Green House, Native Herds, and Midwest Arena.
His love of the outdoors and animals led him to work at Calkins Nature Center in
Iowa Falls, Beed's Lake State Park in Hampton and the Greenbelt Humane Society
before failing health made retirement necessary. Clay was able to spend several
winters before his death enjoying the warm weather in Florida.
Clay loved horseback riding, Indian history, motorcycle riding, reading,
collecting Roy Roger memorabilia and sheltering homeless animals.
Clay is survived by the love of his life and longtime companion, Sue Davis of
North Buena Vista, Iowa; sister Carnita (Roger) Leist of Rowan; brothers Curtis
of Salem, Oregon, Clark (Doris) of Rowan, Craig (Barb) of Glenwood, Iowa; and
numerous nephews and nieces.
He will be welcomed into heaven by his parents.
