Clive Junior Wyke was born January 16, 1928 to Clive F. and Doris P. (Emerson) Wyke in Elgin, Illinois. He grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois until age 13, then moved to his uncle’s farm south of Mason City, and eventually to Rockwell, Iowa, where he attended high school until enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17.

Clive served in the U.S. Navy in the pacific theater of World War II, on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania, a battleship that was torpedoed off of the island of Okinawa.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, Clive returned to north central Iowa. He drove a taxi in Mason City before working for Marshall & Swift and Webber Carpet in Mason City.

Clive was united in marriage to Glendora Espevold at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett on September 16, 1950.

Clive and his father ran a carpet cleaning business and he later went to Des Moines and learned to lay floor tile. He later moved to Britt and laid carpet for Cassidy Furniture for 7 years before venturing out on his own in 1956. He installed the carpet in the first Winnebago off the assembly line. Clive retired from installing floors at the age of 62. He installed floorcovering for a total of 44 years.

Clive enjoyed riding his 1946 Indian motorcycle. He also bowled on a league for a number of years and loved playing pool. He refinished dozens of pieces of furniture, which led him into an interest in woodworking. He was well known for building a variety of puzzles and games, toy trains, and cribbage boards in the shape of cars, firetrucks, semi’s and other objects. Many of these items reflected his great sense of humor and wit.

Clive was a member of the Britt American Legion and V.F.W. posts for more than 60 years. They recently honored him at his 90th birthday party.

Clive is survived by his wife Glendora (Dolly) of Britt, daughter Julie (Ken) Schreiber of Knierim, Iowa, grandson Kenny Jr. (Kellie) Schreiber and their children Zackary, Heather, Abby, Savannah, Hunter and Megan of Humboldt, sisters Lanita June (Sam) Fedelleck of Las Vegas and Betty Jane Chapman of Thornton, Colorado; along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Clive was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, and brother-in-law Oris Chapman.

Clive’s family would like to acknowledge Hospice nurse Julie Everett for her outstanding care, and concern for the family during this difficult time.
