Obituary


Cora B. Champion, 103, passed away Sunday, June 5, 1994, at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

Cora was born December 20, 1890 at Thornton, Iowa, to Albert and Julia (Chase) Hemming.  She attended Thornton area schools and graduated from Thornton High School in 1909.  She was married to H.L. Boothroyd on December 25, 1911 and lived in Mason City for 10 years then returned to Thornton.

In 1934, she moved to Britt to operate a grocery store.  In 1937 she was married to J.H. Champion.  They retired from the grocery in 1949.  Mr. Champion passed in 1969.  Cora was a was a 60 year member of the Britt United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Club.  She became a resident of Westview Care Center in February 1983.

She is survived by one son: Edwin L. Boothroyd and his wife, Betty of Britt; two grandsons, three great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one step-son: Alfred Champion and his wife, Alice of Britt, five step-grandchildren and three step great grandsons, a step daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arlene Champion of Moline, Illinois; two brothers: Ray Hemming of Mason City and Floyd Hemming of Bolivar, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one son - Harold Boothroyd in 1940, two step-daughters: Marie Albers and Eunice Krauss and a step-son, Ivan Champion.
