Cynthia Lou (Sisson) Askvig, 64, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at her home in Clarion. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East, in Clarion.  Burial will be held at a later date.

Cynthia Lou (Sisson) Askvig was born on March 24, 1958 in Moorhead, Iowa to Gayle and Audrey (Troth) Sisson.  She grew up in Castana, Churdan, Palmer, Estherville, and Goldfield, Iowa.  In 1973 Cindy gave birth to a son (Aaron Lee Sisson) who died just two days later.

She then met and married the love of her life, Duane Askvig, on August 1st, 1974.  With this union came three children; Joseph Askvig, Joshua Askvig, and Jessica (Michael) Askvig.  They settled at home in Clarion, Iowa and she resided there until her death.

Cindy came from a huge, loving family where she learned to help care for her siblings and later moved on to babysitting for others around the age of 12.  Over the years, Cindy has cared for many in and outside of her family from her children, friends of her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Cindy worked many years waitressing in Clarion at The New Home Café, Maid-Rite, and The Prairie House before bartending at The Well in Goldfield until 2009.

Cindy loved everything NASCAR and racing.  If there was a race on she was watching or recording it.  She was a major Kasey Kahne and then Martin Truex Jr. fan.  She was also a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. She enjoyed watching old time movies, Westerns, the Today Show, listening to country music, reading, bird watching, playing games, and puzzles.  She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, friends, and dog Nikko.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Duane (Doc).  Her children Joe, Josh, Jessie (Mike) and dog Nikko, and grandchildren Emma Askvig, Tara Bergeson, Tristan Fletcher, and Alexis Gardalen.

She was preceded in death by her son Aaron, parents Gayle and Audrey Sisson, sister Teresa (Sisson) Soesbe, niece Angela (Linn) Holland, nephew Marcus Reiter, brother-in-law James Vetter, father-in-law Merl Askvig, and brother-in-law Dennis Askvig.
