Obituary


Cyril A. Formanek, 83, passed away, Thursday, March 27, 1997, at the Concord Care Center in Garner, Iowa.

Cyril, the son of Cyril and Barbara (Vavrik) Formanek, was born July 27, 1913, in Duncan, Iowa.  He attended country schools in the area.  Cyril was employed by the Zrostlik Truck Line, working for area farmers during his early years.  On November 22, 1944, he was united in marriage with Clara Hrubes at the St. Wenceslaus Church at Duncan.  The couple moved to Mason City where he was employed by Sage Truck Lines.  In 1947, they moved to a farm east of Britt, where they farmed for a time before moving to a farm northeast of Britt.  Along with farming, Cyril maintained a milk route, hauling milk to the Garner Creamery.  He later hauled milk to the Britt and Whittemore Creameries for 19 years and then worked for Bituminous Transport Company of Algona.

Cyril was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Wenceslaus Church at Duncan, and was a member of the Catholic Workman Lodge Branch 51 at Duncan.

Survivors include his wife, Clara of 52 1/2 years, his sons, Bob and his wife, Val of Ventura, IA and Bill and his wife, Sharon of Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren, Cindy Quail of Forest City, Kim Formanek of Des Moines, and Brent Formanek of Garner; five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Samantha, Jesse, Steffanie and Natalie; one sister, Helen Rasmuson of Garner; several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Meyer and her husband, Howard of Strawberry Point, and Rosemary Hrubes of Garner.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Charlie and two sisters, Mamie Engel and Barbara Johnson.
