Obituary


Dale B. Swenson, 90, of Britt passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

A Memorial Mass for Dale Swenson will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street Southeast in Britt with Father Jim Dubert officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.  The Britt Ceremonial Honor Guard will provide military rites.

Visitation for Dale Swenson will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street Southeast in Britt. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Dale Benard Swenson, the son of Bennie L. and Esther S. (Dahle) Swenson was born June 22, 1925 in Waseca, Minnesota.

Dale attended rural schools in Waseca County, Minnesota and graduated from New Richland High School with the Class of 1942.

In October of 1943, Dale entered the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kansas.  Dale served with the 85th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron - 5th Armored Division, taking part in 5 major European campaigns.  Following the war, he served in the 2nd Armored Division Honor Guard for President Truman in Berlin.  Dale was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946.

Dale was united in marriage to Rita Mahowald on June 12, 1948 in New Prague, Minnesota.  The couple made their home in New Prague and Dale worked for Minnesota Valley Breeders Association, where he took part in pioneering artificial insemination of dairy cattle.

In 1956, Dale began working as Branch Manager of Midland Cooperatives in Waseca, Minnesota, a position he held until 1964, when the family moved to Britt and he began working for the Farmers Cooperative as Manager.

In 1970, Dale began his sales career, working in various sales management positions for American Dryers, York Manufacturing, Shivvers, Westgo, Sioux Steel, Mayrath Industries, Britt Tech, and Fountain Industries.  During his retirement years, Dale worked alongside son Jon at Swenson’s Hardware in Britt.

Dale was very involved in the community, serving on city council and was instrumental in beginning Britt Country Club.

Dale was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Dale will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Dale is survived by his children Mary Swenson of Britt, Kurt (Cathy) Swenson of Gladstone, Missouri, Paul (Jean) Swenson of Urbandale, and Jon (Jane) Swenson of Britt; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Sophie Ann Brune of Surprise, Arizona; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rita in 2010; and sister Audrey Nelson.
