Dale Charles Dougherty, 93, of Clarion, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Memorial services for Dale Dougherty will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, 219 1st Street North West in Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.  Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation for Dale Dougherty will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Dale was the cherished husband of Irene Roosevelt Dougherty, who passed away in 2010 after sixty-eight years of marriage.  Dale was born in Ackley, Iowa, on November 28th, 1920.  His family moved to Clarion in 1929 when he was nine years old.  He attended the Clarion schools, graduating in 1938.  In December 2007, Dale and Irene moved to an assisted living center in Ames to be near their son David.

Dale was the son of Earl and Gertrude (DeNui) Dougherty of Clarion.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Loren and Russell and is survived by his sister, Gerene Smith, of Eagle Grove.  Dale was a longtime Clarion banker and will be remembered for his many years of community service as City Treasurer.  He also served and was honored by many Clarion organizations such as Lions Club, Clarion Chamber of Commerce, VFW, American Legion Post No. 246, Wright County Medical Center, Clarion Red Cross Chapter, Clarion Development Commission, the Clarmond Country Club and was a longtime member and Elder of the Clarion United Presbyterian Church.  He was very proud to be a Navy WW II veteran along with his two brothers and was able to attend the Iowa Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010.

Dale is survived by his four children:  Diane (Tom) McNulty of Naples, Florida, Mike (Jackie) Dougherty of Aurora, Colorado, Linda (Steve) Foltz of Nashotah, Wisconsin, and David (Charlotte) Dougherty of Ames, Iowa.  He also has six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Clarion United Presbyterian Church or to the Wright County Medical Center.
