Daniel J. Chizek, 54 of Britt, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his home in Britt. A Mass of Christian Burial for Dan Chizek will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 335 First Avenue South East in Britt, with Father Joseph Sevcik officiating. Daniel Joseph Chizek was born May 27, 1967 to Virgil and Dorothy (Kemmerick) Chizek in Britt, Iowa. Dan was raised and educated in Britt, graduating from Britt High School with the Class of 1987. Following graduation, Dan attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Des Moines where he studied auto mechanics. Dan was raised on the farm, and continued to farm alongside his brother Dave on the family farm. He also worked for Jeff Nielsen for many years, and more recently, for Mike Hejlik. Dan was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Hancock County Historical Society and was previously a member of the Britt Lions Club. Dan was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching NASCAR, was a supporter of West Hancock Eagles sports, Iowa Hawkeyes football and the Dallas Cowboys. Dan enjoyed shopping, especially on Black Friday at Fleet Farm. He helped take care of his mother, Dorothy, for many years following the death of his father. Dan is survived by his mother, Dorothy Chizek, of Britt; fiancé Christy Rossiter of Mason City; siblings Virginia (Tony) Schene of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Margaret (Warren) Fenlon of Rochester, Minnesota and David Chizek of Britt; nephew Bryce (Fanni) Fenlon of Budapest, Hungary, nieces Miranda Schene of Iowa City, Monica Fenlon of Rochester, Minnesota, Rachel Chizek of Luck, Wisconsin and Ashley Chizek of Luck, Wisconsin; along with a number of extended family members and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Chizek, in 1995. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, Dan's family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Britt Knights of Columbus council, or left to his family's discretion.
