Obituary
Darlene L. (Leerar) Day, 83, of Britt was called home to be with her Savior on Monday, December 6, 2021.
Funeral services for Darlene Day will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 13, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue North West in Britt with Pastor Anna Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Darlene Lavonne Leerar was born August 7, 1938 to Herman and Lula (Jackson) Leerar, the third of seven children. She was born in Woden but moved to the Britt area at an early age and attended country school at Boone #2 near Hutchins. She helped raise her younger siblings and prepared meals for the workers on the farm.
Darlene was united in marriage to Daniel Day on November 10, 1963, at First Lutheran Church in Britt. Son Douglas completed the family in 1970. The family eventually made their home in Britt, and Daniel passed away in 1993.
Darlene was a social butterfly. She made friends with strangers everywhere she went, striking up conversations with whomever she met. She loved spending time with family, especially attending family gatherings and get-togethers on holidays, playing Bingo, 500 and Dominos, attending car shows, watching NASCAR races and collecting teddy bears.
Darlene was a lifelong Lutheran and longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Britt where she served in various women’s circles.
Darlene is survived by her son, Doug (Laure) Day of Wilmington, Illinois; siblings Leona Welter of Corwith, Linda Foy of Odebolt, Vickie Trunkhill of Algona and Larry Leerar of Clear Lake; sisters-in-law Teresa Leerar of Britt and Paulette Leerar of Miller; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Daniel; brothers Lester Leerar and Duane Leerar; brothers-in-law Tom Welter, Charles Foy and Charles Trunkhill; nieces Cheryl Welter Andersen, Shannon Foy Koenen and Meagan Foy; nephews Marty Leerar, Mark Leerar and baby boy Trunkhill.
