Obituary


Darlene R. (Chapman) Tillman, 88, of Belmond, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond

Graveside services for Darlene Tillman will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond.

Those attending will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and encouraged to wear a face covering.

Darlene Ruth was born January 22, 1932 to John and Naomi (Norris) Chapman on the family farm south of Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1950.

On April 18, 1953, she married Richard Tillman at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Goodell. They lived on an acreage near Rowan. To this union, three sons were born: Richard Wayne, Randall Alan, and Rory Lynn.

Darlene worked at Reineking Grocery, Rowan Lumber and Grain for several years. She also worked for Lansing Grocery in Rowan and then went to work for Meredith Corp and Neodata in Clarion where she retired in 1994.

In her early years, Darlene had taught Sunday school and bible school. She was also a Cub Scout leader. Darlene had been a long time member of the United Methodist Women.

Darlene enjoyed going to county and state fairs especially when her family was showing livestock. She loved to garden and work in her flower beds. Her kitchen was open 24 hours a day and was always ready to make a meal whenever anyone stopped by.

She loved having her family around for the holidays and at all times. She was very dedicated to them.

Darlene is survived by sons Randy Tillman of Belmond and Richard Tillman of La Crosse, WI; grandson Andrew (Megan) Tillman of Kanawha; great-grandchildren Aubrey and Levi Tillman; and sister Lucille Berhow of Kanawha.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard; son Rory; siblings June Mellott and Mae Drury; brothers-in-law Robert Drury and Leroy Berhow; parents; and grandparents.
