Darlene (Franzen) Weiland, 84, of Britt passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2022 at
Westview Care Center in Britt.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM at First
Lutheran Church, 70 5th Avenue Northwest in Britt with Pastor Anna Wolf
officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 -7:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the First
Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on
Saturday.
Darlene Ruth (Franzen) Weiland, daughter of Dick and Rosa (Pommer) Franzen, was
born on April 26, 1937 in Titonka, Iowa. She went to Germany Valley country
school and graduated from the Titonka High School with the class of 1955. She
continued her education at Wartburg College.
Darlene met the love of her life, Donald Weiland while roller skating. The
couple was united in marriage on February 28, 1961 at the Immanuel Lutheran
Church outside of Titonka. The couple lived north of Britt where Don worked for
Dale Frazier farming until 1972 when they purchased and moved to their farm
north of Britt where they raised their family. They moved into Britt in 1988.
She enjoyed working side by side with Don on the farm. Darlene was later
employed by the Britt school district as a cook in the grade school. Before she
retired she worked at The Flower Cart in Britt.
During her free time, Darlene loved to go antiquing and planting flowers. She
was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt and enjoyed sharing
her musical talents. She made a cozy home for her family with her decorating
expertise and warm delicious food. Taking care of her grandchildren and great
grandchildren was Darlene's biggest passion.
She will be remembered as genuine sweet woman with a kind heart.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Donald Weiland of Britt; son David
(Jane) Weiland of Sheffield and their children Jennifer (Brody) Franzeen,
Kristine (Trent) Trask and their two children Jaylon and Paxton, and Sarah
Weiland; daughter Deanna (Mark) Christopherson of Forest City and children
Jessica (Ben) Buck and their three children Caelyn, Addison, Liam, Michelle
(Tyler) Haugland and their three children Tristen, Hayden and Presten, and Jacob
(Mackenzie) Christensen and their two children Emmitt and Madden; along with
extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Douglas Weiland in 1964, infant
boy Weiland in 1966, grandson Nathan Weiland in infancy in 1992 and brother
Marlyn Frazen.
