Obituary


Daryl D. Schimmelpfennig, 71, passed away Friday, August 13, 1999, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.

Daryl, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Caskey) Schimelpfennig, was born in Harper, Iowa on March 24, 1928.  He grew up in the Harper area and attended Keokuk County Schools.

Daryl served in the Marine Corp. from December of 1950 to January of 1954.  Durig this time, he served in the Korean Conflict, earning one battle star.  Daryl was united in marriage with Jo Ellen Guy on January 18, 1957 in Fairfield, Iowa.  The couple moved to Hancock county in March of 1957 where they spent their entire married life.  Daryl raised livestock and enjoyed training horses.  He served as President of the Winnebago-Hancock Cattlemen's Association in 1994.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ellen; four children: Michael and his wife, Debra Schimmelpfennig and their children Andrew, Jacob and Emily of Woden, Iowa, Roger Schimmelpfennig of Forest City, Iowa, Kathy and her husband, Gregory Gerdes and their children Nicholas and Jessica of Bloomington, Illinois, Alan and his wife, Dr. Kari Jones Schimmelpfennig of Stockbridge, Georgia; one brother Gerald of Batavia, Iowa and two sisters Vava Jones of Long Beach, California and Harriett Neart of St. Loius, Missouri.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
