Obituary


David Askvig, 65, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services for David Askvig will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Pastor Warren Curry officiating.Please wear your favorite Iowa Hawkeye apparel per Dave’s wishes.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue an hour prior to services on Wednesday.

David Larry Askvig, the son of Harold and Pauline (Campbell) Askvig, was born March 6, 1954 in Clarion, Iowa. Dave grew up in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1972.  During his senior year, Dave placed 2nd at State Wrestling in class AA #145 weight bracket.

After high school, Dave attended college in Wisconsin before transferring to DMACC. Dave worked various jobs including carpentry, Evans and Kay, Truck Driving and recently Purina before retiring.

Dave married Cheryl Tagg in 1976 at the Clarion Church of Christ, to this union three children were born, Todd, Kevin and Andrea.  Dave’s greatest joy was his family, spending time at his son’s house, fishing trips, and always made sure they were taken care of. He especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them; He was two peas in a pod with his grandson Jaxson.

Dave was a happy go lucky man who could talk to anyone, willing to help anyone, and was always cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Dave is survived by his wife of 43 years Cheryl of Clarion; son Todd (Kayla) Askvig of Clarion and children Tyler and Reed; daughter Andrea (KC) Loux and children Jacob, Clayton, Jaxson and Rylee; Kevin’s children Madison, Ashlynn, Brooklyn; brothers Frank Askvig of Des Moines, Kim (Jolene) Askvig of Cowley, Wyoming and Larry (Mary) Askvig of Sedro Woolley, Washington along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Kevin.
