Obituary


David Lee Miles, 71, of Kanawha, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.

Funeral services for David Miles will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Goodell Community Center, 315 Broadway Street, in Goodell with Rev. Jon Rollefson and Past Dept. Chaplin James Kessler officiating.  Burial will be at Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, in Kanawha and continue one hour prior to services at the community center on Saturday.

David Lee Miles, the son of Hollis and Mary Helen (Pirtle) Miles, was born on July 12, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa.  On February 7, 1985 he was united in marriage to Kelly Hutchinson in Kalo, Iowa.

Dave was actively involved in many organizations which were very dear to him and which he was very proud to be a member of and hold offices in.  He was a member of the American Legion, S.A.L. (Sons of American Legion), V.V.A. (Vietnam Veterans Association) the AmVets as well as the 40 & 8.

Over the years Dave was involved in many other organizations one of them being the Britt Lions Club which he really loved.  Dave enjoyed going to all the conferences just as he does with the Legion.  Dave also served on the Britt Draft Horse Show Board helping with the shows.

The last couple of years have been spent with family and Dave holding tightly to his belief in God.  He just couldn’t fight anymore.  Dave will be sadly missed by all of us.

Dave is survived by his wife Kelly of Kanawha; son David Scott of Des Moines; son David William of Germany; daughter Michelle Fey (Bryon) of Kalispell, Montana; daughter Beth Schreiber of Kanawha; daughter Sarah Miles of Kanawha; grandchildren:  Shawna, Cody and Dillon of Des Moines, Kaylee and Kelsey of Montana, Teka and Tyler of Mississippi, Lisa Marie and Noah of Germany and Emily and Cole of Garner; great-grandchildren; sisters:  Donna Hollingsworth of Rosharon, Texas and Dixie Burns of Des Moines; along with other family members and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Hollis Miles, Jr.
