Obituary


David Lee Thompson, 41, passed away July 12, 2015 at his rural home between Belmond and Kanawha.

Services were held July 16, 2015 at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. Pastor Nicole Woodley of First Lutheran Church in Clarion officiated. Military honors were be conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard. 

David was born July 25, 1973 in Paso Robles, CA to Kenneth Lee and Donna Johnson Thompson. They moved to Eagle Grove in 1975 where David attended school and graduated in 1991.

David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for six years. He met Roxanne Raftus while they were serving their country. The couple moved back to Iowa after they were honorably discharged from the Marines. David worked for Frigidaire in Webster City, then Eaton in Belmond. After Roxanne’s death, David was a stay- at-home father for Nicholas and Haley for a time. He began working again at Silgan containers where he was employed at the time of his passing. David was a very good and proud father. He closely followed his children in their sporting and school activities. David was united in marriage to Candetia Holcomb on July 6, 2015. David and his children had recently been baptized by Pastor Woodley.

David is survived by his wife Candetia; son Nicholas Raftis of Goodell; daughter Haley Thompson at home, step-son Austin Holcomb at home; mother Donna Thompson of Belmond; sisters Samantha Campbell and Jason of Waterloo, and Lori Tulles and Gabriel of Salina, KS; brother William (Bill) Thompson and Georgia Grover of Spencer; step-brother Scott Thompson; and step-sister Kellie Grant.

He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Lee, and his wife Roxanne.
