Della was the sixth of nine children born to James and Katie Davids. She was born on March 22, 1920 in northern Wright County. She attended Norway Township No. 3 country school through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Kanawha High School in 1937. She then cleaned for various local families earning $3/week and also worked as a waitress. In 1947 she began working in Orange City as a cook at Northwestern College. She enjoyed the girls in the dormitory for six years. Then she managed a hotel, ran the switchboard and the bus depot in Sheldon, Iowa. In 1963 she moved to Iowa City and worked many cleaning jobs and waiting tables until she began employment in Burge Hall at the University of Iowa. After her retirement from there, she continued to clean homes until her move to Kanawha. She was also very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

Della enjoyed traveling, especially by bus. She toured much of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and the South Pacific. She made nine trips to Holland and Germany to see friends and family. One of her favorite places to travel to was the Jersey Shores where she attended a conference every year for 41 years. She also sponsored underprivileged children in the United States and Central America for 51 years. Playing the piano was one of her favorite past times.

In May of 2013 she moved to the Kanawha Community Home following a third car/pedestrian accident. She appreciated coming back to her hometown where she had family, friends, and her home church nearby. She continued to participate in activities at the Wright Christian Reformed Church and at the Kanawha Community Home for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Lena Tincher, Ann Leerar, Bert, Bill, Marienus (Sharkey), John, L. Robert (Bob), and Don Davids, their spouses, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great great-nieces, great great-nephews, and many friends.

Thank you to all the employees at the Kanawha Community Home for their wonderful care for the past 11 years!
