Della M. (Rasmuson) Hampe

Della M. Hampe, 83, of Britt passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Memorial services for Della Hampe will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Britt United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street South West in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Della Mae, the daughter of Donald and Keota (Knoedler) Rasmuson was born May 17, 1934 in Britt, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Britt, and lived in the Britt area her entire life.

Della was united in marriage to James Kenneth Hampe on June 22, 1951 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union, children Di Ann and Daniel were born. The couple made their home on the Hampe farm in Britt before moving to Eagle Lake in 1959, where they continued to make their home until moving to the Summit House in Britt in October of 2016.

In addition to raising the family, Della worked as a waitress for a number of years, including the Highway Café in Britt and the Halfway in Duncan. She and Jim owned and operated the Red Rooster in Britt for a few years and she also worked for Winnebago Industries for a time.

Della was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ in Britt until it closed, then attended the Britt United Methodist Church. She was previously a member of the Britt Lioness, The 3 G’s Club, Britt Women’s Club, Sno-Bo Snowmobile Club and the Red Hat Society. She was also very active in her children’s activities and school sporting events.

Della was a very crafty person, loved sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting as well as cooking and baking. Many of the family holiday meals were prepared and served by her out at the farm. She enjoyed playing Bridge and 500, as well as spending time and traveling with Jim. She and Jim wintered in Texas for more than 30 years, and enjoyed a memorable 6 week trip to Alaska.

Della was outgoing and cheerful, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her smile and her willingness to help others when she was able.

Della is survived by her husband Jim of Britt, daughter Di Ann (Greg) Reindl of Reedsville, Wisconsin and son Daniel (Jackie) Hampe of Britt; grandchildren Matthew Reindl of River Falls, Wisconsin, April (fiancé Greg Schneider) Reindl of Mishicot, Wisconsin, Ryan Hampe of Britt and Christopher (Jennifer) Hampe of Madrid, Iowa; great-grandchildren Vanessa Cluchey, Macy Schneider and Coraline Hampe; brother Dean Rasmuson of Sturgis, South Dakota and sister Dorothy (Jerry) Ingvall of Spirit Lake, Iowa; special friends Orville and Bethene Nelson and Lawrence and Shirley Smidt; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Della is preceded in death by her parents.
