Dennis "Denny" McNulty, 75, of Belmond, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1207 3rd Street North East in Belmond with Father Jerry Blake officiating.  Graveside services will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Belmond. There will be a Rosary and Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 PM following visitation on Sunday. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Dennis Carroll, son of Gerald W. and Madonna (Hofer) McNulty, was born on April 28, 1946 in Belmond.  Denny grew up on a farm north of town and attended school in Belmond.  While in high school he was active in football, wrestling, and track, and set a record for shot put at the indoor state track meet.  During the fall of 1963, his senior year, Mac was proud to be a member of the first ever undefeated Bronco football team.  That team was recently inducted into the Belmond-Klemme Sports Hall of Fame.  Mac was thrilled with this recognition, and loved reminiscing with his lifelong friends and teammates.  Denny attended college at Wayne State for one year where he also played football. Denny spent a short time living in Arizona near his brother, Mark, before returning to Belmond.  He helped farm and eventually took over the family business, Mac's Conoco, for close to 20 years.  He later was part owner of SpecialTees, sold real estate at Chelsvig Realty, and worked several years at Lee Ltd. before retiring. On June 17, 1972, Denny was united in marriage to Cynthia Musselman at the Belmond United Methodist Church.  The couple made their home in Belmond where they raised their two daughters. In his younger years, Mac enjoyed bowling, golf, and his many fishing trips to northern Minnesota and Canada with his friends and brothers.  As a proud Irishman, he followed the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a decades-long season ticket holder for the Minnesota Vikings.  Many stories came from these Sunday trips.  It was a memorable opportunity and experience for those who were lucky enough to make the trip with him.  Denny was a member of the Belmond Fire Department and Jaycees.  He was active in the Knights of Columbus and served on many church committees over the years.  After retirement, Denny enjoyed and looked forward to his time volunteering at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Most important to Denny was his family.  He always supported and cheered on his daughters in their activities, and more recently those of his grandchildren.  He faithfully picked up his Belmond grandchildren from school, called his North Liberty grandchildren on Sundays, and greatly enjoyed any time spent with his siblings, cousins, and other family members.  Denny will always be remembered for his dedication to family and friends, his sense of humor, his love of telling (and re-telling) stories, and his unforgettable laugh. Denny is survived by his daughters Meagan (Kyle) Rolfes of North Liberty and children Marrin, Avery, and Brady; Kate McNulty (Christian Anderson) of Belmond and children Aidan, Mayson, and Holdyn, and Chole Schneiter;  former wife Cyndy McNulty of Belmond; siblings Tom (Diane) McNulty of Naples, Florida, Mark (Marcia) McNulty of Clear Lake, Shannon McNulty of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Edward McNulty of Belmond; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Scott and Mindy Meyer and their family. He is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Donna, as well as aunts, uncles, and good friends.
