Obituary


Denny J. Johnson, 82, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Denny Johnson will be held Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Britt with Mr. Jason Boomgarden officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Military graveside services will be provided by the Britt Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Denny, the son of Elmer and Ruth (Larson) Johnson, was born December 12, 1925 at the family home in Wesley, Iowa. Denny grew up in the Wesley area where he attended country school.

Denny was united in marriage with Marjorie Ann Baumgartner on February 20, 1951 at the Bethel Baptist Church Parsonage in Britt while Denny was home from the Army on leave. Following Denny’s discharge from the Army, the couple made their home on a farm northwest of Britt where Denny was currently living. Denny was employed by the Farmers Co-op in Britt for 44 years.

Denny loved driving his tractors and mowing his yard. He enjoyed all his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was especially proud of all his children and their spouses.

Denny is survived by his children: Barb (Al) Brown of Britt, Jo Johnson of Britt, Dixie (Oz) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Tammy (Johnny) Johnson-Benavides, of Britt, Mark (Abby) Johnson of Fort Benning, Georgia, Al (Naomi) Johnson of Davie, Florida; grandchildren: James (Kari) Brown, David (Erin) Brown, Brandis (Josh) Wieditz-Jarr, Justin (Shannon) Rouse, Dakotah Young, Tristan Young, Jaden Young, Laney Johnson, Denny Johnson, Anthony Odierno, Chris Odierno; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Jean Knapper of Maxwell, California, Sharlene Benken of Mason City, Mary Lee Trappe of Manly; sister-in-law Wilhelmine Johnson of Dover, Delaware and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marjorie; grandson Victor Brown; brother Walter; three brothers-in-law: Curt, Wesley and Dale.
