Obituary


Dixie Pavelka, 50, of Britt went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2004, after succumbing to her most recent bout with cancer.

Dixie Lyn Lester was born on June 14, 1953, in Clarion, Iowa, the third child of Kenneth and Hazel (Dockwell) Lester.  She was baptized and confirmed in the First Methodist Church of Clarion, Iowa, and attended school in Clarion.  She moved to Britt in 1971 and worked various jobs over the years and for the past six years was an employee of Winnebago Industries of Forest City.

She was active in various organizations including Jaycees, Britt Hobo Day activities and Relay for Life - Cerro Gordo County.  Dixie was very athletic as a young woman and continued this by playing on several softball and bowling teams, most recently, the "Oleo Big Dogs". Not only was she a sports participant but also a spectator enjoying her favorite teams the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Redskins.

Over the years Dixie enjoyed camping, swimming, stock car racing, collecting teddy bears and angels, spending time with her family and many friends.  Late in life, Dixie even began a more personal walk with the Lord.

Dixie is survived by her sons Jason and his wife Kristy of Britt and Nathan of San Diego, California; her mother Hazel Lester of Belmond; her two brothers and three sisters: Linda Bruening and husband David of Annapolis, Maryland, Gary Lester of Red Feather Lake, Colorado, Renae Duffey and her husband Michael of Tucson, Arizona, Debra Tarvin and her husband Mark of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Kent Lester and his wife Sandy of Ft. Collins, Colorado; four children, Logan, Blaine, Blake, and Kylee; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and former husband Jerry Pavelka.

Dixie was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
