Donald Brooks, 73, of Britt passed away Thursday, June 20, 2002, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Donald, the son of Charley and Nora (Dexter) Brooks, was born April 18, 1929, near Britt.  At an early age, he moved with his parents to Burnside-Lehigh, Iowa area.  Donald graduated Burnside High School in 1948.  Donald's parents moved back to the Kanawha area in 1947.  Following his graduation, he joined his parent's near Kanawha and continued farming.  Donald was a farmer for 55 years.

Donald entered the United States Marines in 1951, and served in the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge in 1953, he returned to the Kanawha area.  The Korean Government awarded Donald the Korean War Service Medal.

Donald was united in marriage with Marlene Luppen in 1959, at the home of her parent's at Kanawha.  The couple made their home on a farm in Erin Township.  In 1972, they moved to the farm, which they had previously purchased, and where they presently live.

Donald loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.  He raised all types of livestock; he particularly enjoyed working his "Gentle Giants" and his dog Louie.  He truly loved the simple things of God's creation.

He was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church and the American Legion.  Donald was also a member of the Percheron Horse Association, Belgian Horse Association and Hitchin' to Go Drivin' Club.

Donald is survived by his wife, Marlene of Britt; son Ronald Brooks and his wife, Susan of Britt; daughter Lori Jo Brooks of Mason City; two grandchildren, Carrie Myers and her husband, Anthony of Britt and Troy Brooks of Britt; and one great-grandson Michael Myers.
