Donald Floyd Alphs, the son of Adolph and Gerta (Eggum) Alphs, was born on April
7, 1927, on a farm outside of Thompson, Iowa. Donald grew up on the farm and
attended country school until the 8th grade.
Don started his passion of farming before enlisting in the United States Army.
He served in the occupation forces in Japan at the end of World War II.
Following his discharge from the service, Don married Irma Eden on November 25,
1947 at the Woden Christian Reformed Church. The couple made their home on a
farm southwest of Woden, where they raised their three children.
Next to his faith in Jesus Christ, farming was his passion. His wife of 65 years
labored side by side with him daily, in work and in worship. After retirement,
Don volunteered at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake. He truly enjoyed people
and people enjoyed him. He was always around to give an encouraging word and
smile.
Don is survived by his daughter Connie and husband, David; son Mike and his
wife, Deb; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with extended
family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Irma, son Bob,
and his siblings.
