Obituary


Donald Raymond Sharp, just shy of 95, passed away peacefully at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Memorial will be held at a later date in the Springtime with family and friends.

Don was born February 16, 1920 to George William and Maude Ann Mattison Sharp in Clarion, Iowa, and the 10th and last surviving child. He received his education and graduated from Clarion High School in 1938. He then traveled the USA working various jobs from Sales to a First Class Riveter before enlisting in the United States Army.  Sergeant Donald Sharp was a Radio Operator-Mechanic and received his Honorable Discharge in 1946. He was united in marriage to Geneva “Jen” Spitzer Mansfield in 1945 and they made their home in Clarion. Jenny passed away from cancer in 1963. Don worked at Walden Electronics, INC in Sales and various other sales positions until his retirement. He traveled extensively throughout the world during his golden years and enjoyed meeting and learning about other cultures. He was a “Za-Ga-Zig” member of the Mystic Shrine Grand Lodge of Iowa, and wore his red velvet Fez with pride. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, and loved his golf at the Clarmond Country Club. Don will be remembered for his gift of gab with anyone.

Don is survived by his only child, daughter Patti Kinnison of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Tami Schmidt of Kyle, Texas, Lori (Steve) Arnold of Fort Dodge, Gordon Kinnison of Fort Dodge, and Jodi (Luis) Kinnison-Calvo of Buda, Texas; great-grandchildren Ryan, Carrie, Treva, Jordan, Sidney, and Shelbi; great-great grandchildren Evan, Ethan, Preston, and Elliot; and many nephews and nieces.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Jen; all of his 9 siblings, sisters Esther Patton and Mabel Jones, and ”The Sharp Brothers” Walter, Speck, Edward, Ernest, Ralph, Willard, and Wayne.

Don spent the last couple years in the care of wonderful folks that work with the residents at the Clarion Wellness & Rehabilitation Center. The family is thankful for their care.
